Freelance Logo Designer vs
Logo Design Company

Running a business requires that you delegate tasks and responsibilities that you either don't have expertise in or time for. If you delegate the legal aspects of your business to a lawyer and the bookwork aspects to an accountant you should probably hand over the art design aspects to a logo design company.

The fact that there are 2,350,000 results that show up when I do a Google search on the term "logo designer" tells me there is stiff competition in that arena. Nobody has the time to sift through a million plus results no matter how important their needs are.

Some of the Google results were for freelance logo designers most of the results were for logo design companies. I'll quickly evaluate the pluses and minuses for each type.

Contact logo design company - old fashioned phoneContact

It's a real crap shoot these days trying to get a hold of people. Some large companies are great at returning calls and emails, some are lousy. Some small "Lone Ranger" companies oftentimes don't return calls. Some do. Why so many companies shoot themselves in foot and not return calls makes no sense to me.

The logo design company or freelance graphic designer you work with should place ease of contact as a high priority in their business practice. When you hire a person to work for you, i.e. design your logo, they better stay in touch.

Something to consider: If a freelancer gets sick or goes on vacation your project grinds to a halt. Full-blown graphic logo design companies keep chugging along even with half their crew on sick leave.

Experience

Even if you grant a freelance logo design professional twenty years of design experience a logo design company can say that their 20 member design team cumulatively brings 200 years of experience to the table.

Three designers brainstorming ideas for your logo concept will usually produce better results than one designer.

Speed

Sleepy logo designer guy.How fast do you need your logo? Turnaround times for large companies can be remarkable, for a price of course. Larger companies can run multiple shifts and hand off a "need-it-done-now' logo from one designer to the next.

Freelance designers are stuck with burning the midnight oil and possibly compromising the quality of the finishished product.

Quality

The quality of your custom logo design is tough to measure. The main thing is that you are happy with the design and are proud to show it off.

If you are unhappy with the quality of your logo design and decide to start all over again a freelance designer is more likely to balk at the thought. Design firms with a stable of designers can hand the project over to fresh people to bring a new measure of energy and creativity to the project.

The good news is that you don't have to rob a bank to be able to afford a custom logo design.

Good logos can't be created for free regardless of what some internet logo design companies promise.

Logo design hawkers are selling their "Incredible Custom Logo Designs" for $49.95 or less, the internet equivalent of a street corner watch saleman selling Rolex watches for $15. Don't believe them. Free or cheap logos are little more than recycled clipart that has been sold a hundred times before.

Expect to pay $300 dollars and up for a good logo.

Concluding thoughts

Your logo design is of vast importance. To get the best design is what you are after.

I give the edge to larger design companies over one man shows.
